This role will focus on overseeing substation, overhead line (OHL), and underground cable design delivery, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and effective coordination of multidisciplinary engineering teams across complex infrastructure projects.

Working closely with senior leadership, project managers, and construction teams, you will be responsible for ensuring designs are delivered to a high standard, on time, and within budget, while supporting construction and commissioning activities through to energisation.

You will play a key role in driving engineering quality, improving design processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and DNO/TSO requirements, while supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and innovative energy infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, IEC/IEEE standards, Grid Code, and TSO/DNO requirements.
Review and approve engineering deliverables including drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
Drive standardisation and best practice across engineering design processes.
Maintain knowledge of design tools including AutoCAD, ETAP, Amtech, DIgSILENT, MicroStation, and CDEGS. Stakeholder & Client Engagement

Work closely with Project Managers, Construction teams, Estimators, and Site Engineers to deliver practical engineering solutions.
Provide technical input during tenders, proposals, and project delivery phases.
Act as technical point of contact for clients, DNO/TSO representatives, contractors, and suppliers.
Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and manage design change control.
Support commissioning activities from design stage through to energisation. Quality, Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and health, safety, and environmental standards.
Identify technical risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
Drive continuous improvement across engineering systems, processes, and delivery.
Support innovation and integration of renewable and smart energy technologies. About You
You are an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in HV electrical design and multidisciplinary project delivery. You are confident managing engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects in regulated environments.

You are a strong communicator who can translate technical requirements into clear delivery outcomes and work effectively across engineering, commercial, and operational teams.

You are organised, commercially aware, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Proven experience in HV electrical design up to 132kV (ideally up to 400kV).
Experience leading engineering teams within infrastructure or energy projects.
Strong knowledge of HV/MV substation systems and protection & control schemes.
Experience with AIS/GIS substation design including civil, structural, primary plant, P&C, and SCADA.
Proficiency in engineering software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, Amtech, DIgSILENT, MicroStation, and CDEGS.
Strong knowledge of IEC/IEEE standards and DNO/TSO requirements.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Desirable:

Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards IET registration.
Experience within ICP/ECP, utilities, or infrastructure environments.
Exposure to EHV grid connections for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS).
Experience in project or design management within complex engineering environments.
Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery constraints.
