Our client, a leading player in the science sector, is currently seeking a Lab Technician to join their team on a contract basis. This role supports the product and process development lifecycle through quality assessment and the identification and validation of new methods.
This role supports the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow. As a Lab Technician, you will prepare materials and samples for analysis using fast-screening tools, while contributing to routine laboratory activities. The position offers hands-on experience in analytical assessment techniques and best laboratory practices.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with chemical methodologies, analytical preparation processes, and general laboratory maintenance.
Manage sample registration, preparation, organisation, and storage, ensuring full traceability for analyses.
Maintain accurate records by updating planning systems and documenting technical data.
Support routine laboratory operations, including capability checks and chemical quality control activities.
Ensure proper operation, calibration, and quality assurance of laboratory equipment.
Oversee laboratory materials, including organisation, preparation, and inventory management, while supporting compliance with relevant standards and operational procedures.Skills, Experience & Knowledge
Technical Experience
Experience working in an analytical chemistry laboratory environment.
Familiarity with sample preparation for chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques.
Understanding of analytical chemistry principles, particularly chromatography (LC) and spectroscopy (NIR, FTIR).Functional & Behavioural Skills
Ability to identify and resolve technical issues using practical and analytical approaches.
Strong communication, organisational, and planning skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving capability.
Proactive mindset with a positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to take on new challenges.
Ability to translate operational needs into practical technical solutions.Qualifications
Degree (minimum BSc) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline (preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience using databases.Additional Information
This is a temporary role, initially until the end of 2026
Location: On-site (5 days per week) at a purpose-built laboratory near Southampton
Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)
Pay Rate: £17.89 per hour (PAYE)
