Team & Role Overview
Part of AWS optical networking team supporting data centre interconnectivity
Team handles:
Optical network operations
Some engineering/product development work
Core technology: DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing)
Responsible for ensuring high-capacity, resilient transport between data centres
Purpose of the Role
Additional headcount for project-based work (device upgrades + operations)
Focus on:
Software upgrades on optical network devices
Manual/semi-manual execution of network changes
Work includes:
Traffic migration and rerouting
Coordination with internal stakeholders
Execution within defined maintenance windows
Key Responsibilities
Perform software upgrades on optical networking devices
Identify and scope devices within upgrade impact areas
Coordinate:
Traffic rerouting
Internal networking teams
Change management processes
Execute changes using structured runbooks and timelines
Troubleshoot optical/DWDM network issues
Work independently in a production network environment
Required Skills & Experience
Core Requirements
Minimum 3-4+ years' Experience in optical/network operations (5+ preferred)
Experience in:
Optical Network Operations/Support environments
DWDM networks (operations, rollout, or support)
Strong understanding of:
DWDM fundamentals and architecture
Optical transport systems
Solid troubleshooting and network analysis skills
