Senior Control Systems Design Engineer
Location: Warrington, Cheshire (Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days home working)
Rate: £50.93-55.00 Umbrella per hour (inside of IR35)
Contract Length: 12 Months Initial Contract
Hours: 37.5 Hours Per Week
Security Clearance: Current SC Clearance preferred; candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain SC Clearance if not currently held.

Overview Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Control Systems Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex control and instrumentation solutions across major nuclear projects. This role will focus on the design, development and verification of control systems within highly regulated environments, with a particular emphasis on Sellafield-related programmes.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality control system designs, technical documentation and engineering deliverables in accordance with project requirements, industry standards and nuclear safety regulations.
This is a hybrid role based in Warrington, offering three days per week in the office and two days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver control systems design activities throughout the project lifecycle.
Produce and review control system specifications, functional design specifications (FDS), detailed design documentation and technical reports.
Develop control philosophies and control system architectures.
Generate and review PLC, SCADA and HMI design documentation.
Produce I/O schedules, cause and effects matrices and instrument specifications.
Support system integration, testing, commissioning and validation activities where required.
Ensure designs comply with relevant nuclear industry standards, regulations and client requirements.
Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs and safety-related assessments.
Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients and project stakeholders.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers where required.
Support project planning, estimating and technical bid activities.Essential Requirements
Degree qualified in Electrical, Control Systems, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
Significant experience in Control Systems Design Engineering within highly regulated industries.
Demonstrable experience working on Sellafield projects and understanding of Sellafield engineering standards and procedures.
Proven experience producing detailed control system design documentation.
Strong knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems.
Experience with control system lifecycle delivery from concept through to commissioning.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).Desirable Requirements
Current SC Clearance.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
Experience within the nuclear sector, including decommissioning, waste management or new build projects.
Knowledge of IEC 61508, IEC 61511 and relevant nuclear industry standards.
Experience with Siemens, Schneider, Rockwell or other major control system platforms.
Previous commissioning and site-based experience within nuclear facilities.Key Competencies
