Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE

Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Workshop Controller to join a busy automotive or commercial vehicle operation.

This role is ideal for a highly organised individual with previous dealership or truck workshop experience who can effectively manage workshop productivity, maintain high-quality standards, and ensure excellent communication between the workshop and front-of-house teams.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring jobs are completed efficiently, technicians are utilised effectively, and customers receive a first-class service experience.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Operations

Manage the day-to-day running of the workshop.
Allocate work efficiently to technicians based on skill set, availability, and workload.
Monitor workshop productivity and ensure labour targets are achieved.
Prioritise urgent repairs and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.
Track vehicle progress throughout the repair process and minimise downtime.
Ensure workshop resources are utilised effectively to maximise efficiency.

Quality & Compliance

Carry out quality control checks on completed work.
Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities meet manufacturer standards.
Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
Ensure accurate completion of workshop documentation and job records.
Monitor workshop housekeeping and maintain a safe working environment.

Communication & Customer Service

·Act as the link between the workshop team and service department.
·Provide regular updates to Service Advisors on vehicle progress and repair status.
·Assist in managing customer expectations by ensuring accurate timescales and information are communicated.
·Support the resolution of technical queries and workshop-related issues.
·Work collaboratively with parts, service, and management teams to ensure a seamless customer journey.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

·Previous experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, Workshop Supervisor, or similar position.
·Experience working within a franchised dealership, commercial vehicle, truck, HGV, or fleet maintenance environment.
·Strong understanding of workshop operations, repair processes, and technician management.
·Excellent organisational and planning skills.
·Ability to prioritise workload within a fast-paced environment.
·Strong communication and leadership abilities.
·Good IT skills and experience using workshop management systems.

Desirable

·Technical qualification in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent).
·Experience within a truck, HGV, LCV, or commercial vehicle dealership.
·Knowledge of manufacturer warranty and compliance procedures.
