Senior Stress Engineer / Structural Analysis Engineer
Copello are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Stress Engineer to join a defence organisation in West Yorkshire on an initial 3-6 month basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex engineering challenges within the aerospace, defence, and heavy engineering sectors, providing technical expertise in structural analysis, design validation, and non-conformance investigations.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and execute engineering activities to achieve project timescales, budgets, and designated KPIs.
* Take ownership of technical challenges and develop pragmatic engineering solutions within demanding schedules and cost constraints.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative design solutions that meet customer requirements and project objectives.
* Attend Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Detailed Design Reviews (DDR), providing detailed technical reports and recommendations.
* Produce comprehensive technical reports, calculations, and documentation to communicate analysis results and engineering recommendations.
* Participate in design reviews, offering specialist structural analysis expertise to support product development and continuous improvement activities.
* Conduct detailed investigations into non-conformance issues, including root cause analysis and failure mode assessments.
* Monitor corrective actions to ensure timely implementation and effectiveness.
* Provide technical guidance to resolve engineering and quality issues while driving improvements in product performance and reliability.
* Maintain accurate records of investigations, non-conformance reports, corrective actions, and supporting technical documentation.
Required Technical Skills
* Proficiency in structural and stress analysis software, ideally ANSYS, with experience in packages such as MSC NASTRAN and Altair HyperMesh.
* Experience analysing complex engineering structures and mechanical systems.
* Expert knowledge of conventional hand calculation methods for static structural analysis.
* Strong understanding of numerical analysis techniques, including finite element analysis (FEA).
* Experience performing structural analysis on mechanical components, assemblies, and sub-assemblies.
* Experience within heavy engineering applications, including power transmission systems, gears, and gearboxes.
* Familiarity with structural analysis methodologies and significant structural redesign activities.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
* Previous experience in a similar engineering role within the Aerospace & Defence sector.
* Strong understanding of quality management systems and industry standards, including AS9100 and ISO 9001.
This role is offering an hourly rate of £50 -£53 per hour (OUTSIDE IR35) and will require the successful candidate to be on site 2/3 days a week.
Due to the nature of the role candidates will ideally have active SC clearance or the ability to obtain SC
