Job Title: Technical Programme Product Manager

Job Description

This role sits within a fast-moving payments team and focuses on developing and managing technical programmes that deliver new consumer-facing payment products. You will lead projects that must meet stringent standards for security, performance, availability, and reliability, while acting as a key bridge between the payments platform and internal teams that depend on its infrastructure. You will define requirements, plan and coordinate delivery, and contribute to the design of web-based features and interfaces that support innovative payment solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of new consumer-facing payment products, from initial concept and business case through to customer deployment.
  • Define clear, detailed functional and technical requirements in collaboration with internal stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage project delivery to ensure timely execution while maintaining high standards of security, performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Act as a bridge between the payments platform and internal customer teams, ensuring their needs are understood, prioritised, and translated into effective technical solutions.
  • Design and oversee the implementation of web sites, user-facing features, and supporting services for payment products.
  • Provide escalation management by identifying issues early, coordinating responses, and driving timely resolution of risks and blockers.
  • Anticipate and manage trade-offs between business objectives and technical constraints, making informed decisions that balance short-term needs with long-term scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with software developers, technical leads, and non-technical business owners to ensure alignment and successful delivery.
  • Drive the deployment and adoption of new products by working closely with business stakeholders, operations teams, and other partner groups.
  • Oversee the product life cycle for assigned payment products, including enhancements, optimisation, and decommissioning where appropriate.
  • Use data and metrics to inform prioritisation, assess product performance, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage stakeholders across multiple groups, ensuring transparent communication, expectation management, and consistent progress updates.
  • Contribute to the definition and refinement of programme and product management processes, tools, and best practices within the team.
  • Apply knowledge of SaaS, data, and machine learning where relevant to enhance product functionality and customer experience.

Essential Skills

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or a closely related field.
  • Industry experience as a software developer or technical lead, with hands-on exposure to building and delivering software products.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering software products from conception and business case through to customer deployment.
  • Strong product management and programme management skills, with experience managing complex technical projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across different groups within an organisation, including technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to balance business needs with technical constraints and make sound trade-off decisions.
  • experience working closely with business stakeholders to drive deployment and adoption of new products.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating environments.
  • Familiarity with Java.
  • Familiarity with HTML.
  • experience in product management and project management, including planning, prioritisation, and stakeholder communication.
  • experience with SaaS-based products or platforms.
  • experience working with SQL and data to support decision-making and product improvements.
  • experience in new product development and managing the full product life cycle.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including negotiation, influence, and expectation management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the payments or mobile payments domain.
  • Exposure to machine learning concepts or applications within product development.
  • experience working in dynamic, fast-growing or innovative business environments.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and initiative.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical business owners to drive outcomes.
  • Formal education or training in programme or project management methodologies is beneficial.
