Teaching Assistant - SEN & SEMH Specialist

TradeWind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people by helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.

Assist in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

Build positive and trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and confidence.

Support the delivery of lessons and help adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.

Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.

Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external agencies to support student progress.

Monitor and record pupil development, providing feedback to teaching staff.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs.

A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.

Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

Knowledge of autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or behavioural support strategies is desirable.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
