Role Title: Instrumentation and Control Engineer
Work Location: Aberdeen
Business Unit: Project Development & Execution (PDE)
Reporting To: EICT Lead
Role Summary The Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer reports to the EICT Lead and is a key member of the Project Management Team, working collaboratively within project systems, procedures, and methods.
This is considered a key position within the Rosebank project, requiring continuity through to the end of the EPC phase.
The I&C Engineer is responsible for the design solutions and all engineering activities related to Instrumentation, Control, and Metering disciplines within the project.
The role ensures all work (internal and external) is executed in line with:
Class, Flag, and British regulatory requirements
Contract requirements
Project specifications, codes, and standardsA key responsibility includes leading the definition and execution of SAS system modifications (PCS, PSD, ESD, and F&G), alongside verification and modification of field instrumentation and metering systems.
The engineer will also ensure that all project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders reflect required compliance and standards.
Accountabilities
Ensure all discipline activities comply with project frameworks, execution plans, and applicable laws and regulations
Maintain high standards for health, safety, environmental, and equipment protection
Collaborate with operations, construction, mechanical completion, and commissioning teams to provide technical guidance and clarity on scope
Support life extension activities across SAS and field instrumentation systems
Work with compliance and verification teams to ensure regulatory adherence
Review and comment on:
Instrument datasheets
Cause & Effect diagrams
Block diagrams
Specifications and work packages
Assess I&C and metering designs for:
Operability
Functionality
Accessibility
Maintainability
Manage and approve IDC comments and respond to technical queries (TQs) and non-conformances
Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and philosophies
Participate in work pack reviews and ensure completeness of contractor deliverables
Review and address feedback from certifying authorities
Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and other safety studies
Monitor contractor activities including:
Overhaul
Installation and hook-up
Construction and demolition
Support mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities
Report progress issues, delays, or design gaps to the EICT Lead
Participate in meetings, audits, and inspections (including international travel where required)
Contribute to lessons learned and project improvement processes
Manage and close technical queries and action tracker items
Represent I&C discipline at yard and support resolution of engineering queries
Handle interface subsystems and coordinate across disciplines
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to maintain progress and quality
Support additional duties as required by Engineering Manager and EICT LeadQualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Instrumentation & Control Engineering or related discipline
Minimum 10 years’ experience in I&C engineering
Recent experience in:
Modification projects and/or FPSO redeployment
UK North Sea projects (preferred)
Knowledge of UK regulatory compliance
Experience with ABB control systems (advantageous)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills within multidiscipline teams
Experience working in shipyard environments (Middle East / Southeast Asia) is beneficial
Fluent English (written and verbal
