We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive specialist school supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), complex medical needs, and physical disabilities.
This rewarding role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties, autism, sensory impairments, epilepsy, PEG feeding requirements, physical disabilities, and complex healthcare needs.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, complex medical needs, and physical disabilities
Providing high-quality personal care and intimate care support
Assisting with PEG feeding (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy)
Supporting pupils requiring manual handling and hoisting
Monitoring and responding appropriately to medical needs and health care plans
Supporting students with sensory learning activities and communication programmes
Working alongside teachers, therapists, nurses, and healthcare professionals
Assisting with mobility, positioning, and physical development programmes
Promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing at all times
Supporting pupils during educational visits, hydrotherapy, and specialist interventions where required
Essential Requirements
Previous experience working with PMLD, SLD, SEND, Complex Needs, or Medical Needs
Experience providing personal care
Knowledge of PEG feeding or willingness to undertake training
Experience using hoists and manual handling equipment
Understanding of epilepsy management and seizure awareness
Strong safeguarding knowledge
Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable Qualifications & Training

Moving and Handling / Hoist Training
First Aid at Work or Paediatric First Aid
Team Teach, MAPA, or Positive Behaviour Support Training
