Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing multidisciplinary building services consultancy in Bristol. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic and innovative team, delivering projects from concept strategy through to post-completion evaluation across a range of sectors.
This role would suit an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer capable of leading design delivery, managing client relationships, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Represent the consultancy and its core ethos of technical excellence and project delivery with professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity.
Plan, manage, undertake, and deliver high-quality detailed building services engineering design, including:
Engineering calculations and analysis
Development of schematics
Preparation of drawings and explanatory diagrams
Revit models and technical specifications
Equipment schedules and supporting technical documentation
Deliver projects from concept design through to completion and post-occupancy evaluation.
Attend and represent the business at meetings with clients, contractors, architects, and wider professional teams.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders, developing a reputation as a trusted technical advisor.
Mentor and support junior engineers and less experienced team members to encourage professional development and progression.
Contribute to project reviews, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, industry standards, and best practice guidance.
Stay informed on emerging technologies and low-carbon design solutions.
Support business development activities, including client engagement, bid preparation, and tender submissions.
Assist Directors and senior leadership with developing client relationships and expanding the business.
Comply with company quality assurance procedures and standards.
Support wider company and project-related activities as required.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
Experience in the design and delivery of Mechanical Building Services engineering systems.
Ability to demonstrate and clearly articulate the rationale behind engineering design proposals.
Strong knowledge and application of low-carbon and sustainable building design principles.
Chartered Engineer status, or working towards Chartership with a recognised engineering institution. Exceptional candidates able to demonstrate a clear pathway to Chartership may also be considered.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively and lead by example.
Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams to meet project deadlines.
Experience developing and managing project delivery programmes.
Ability to communicate technical information effectively using a variety of formats and media.
Commitment to continuous professional development and adoption of new ways of working.
Professional approach to client and stakeholder engagement.
Fluent written and spoken English.
Eligibility to work in the UK.
