Safety Defect Inspector – Contract Role

AATOM Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Safety Defect Inspector to work on behalf of Dorset Council and partner authorities.
Role Overview
This is a full-time contract position for an initial 3–6 months, with a strong possibility of extension. The successful candidate will support the safe inspection and maintenance of the highway network.
Payment will be made via an umbrella company. Please include your desired hourly rate and preferred umbrella company when applying.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out and record Highway Safety Inspections (driven or walked, depending on urban or rural routes)
* Identify and assess safety defects in line with the Highway Safety Inspection Manual (HSIM)
* Measure and record defects such as potholes, damaged manholes, broken kerbs, faded signage, and blocked drainage
* Use electronic devices and mapping systems to capture and manage inspection data
* Raise electronic works orders and assign appropriate repair priorities
* Act in accordance with CDM Regulations where required
* Liaise with highways teams regarding third-party issues and maintenance needs
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and New Roads & Street Works legislation
* Carry out detailed inspections of highway assets and road marking surveys
Requirements
* City & Guilds 6033 Highway Safety Inspection qualification (essential)
* Experience in highway inspection or a similar role
* Knowledge of highways safety standards and legislation
* Ability to use digital inspection systems
