Academics are an education recruitment agency working with a primary school in Barry to recruit a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil with high tariff additional learning needs (ALN). This position starts in September 2026 and will run on a temporary basis, with potential for long-term continuation depending on funding and pupil progress.

The Role:

Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with complex needs, which may include learning difficulties, communication challenges, and behaviour regulation

Working closely with the class teacher, ALNCo, and external specialists to implement an individualised learning and behaviour support plan

Supporting the child's academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social integration

Assisting with transitions throughout the school day, including break and lunchtime if required

Requirements:

A minimum of 6 months' experience supporting children with ALN/complex needs, ideally in a 1:1 role

A valid Enhanced DBS (on the Update Service or willingness to apply through Academics)

Relevant qualifications or training in SEN, ALN, or behaviour support (desirable)

Strong communication skills, resilience, and a calm, empathetic approach
