Data Architect
London (Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in office)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to lead the design, development, and execution of our enterprise data strategy. This is a pivotal role responsible for shaping how data is managed, governed, and leveraged across the organisation to support strategic objectives and drive data-led decision-making.

You will work across multiple business areas and technology programmes, translating high-level data strategy into actionable architecture roadmaps and ensuring consistent adoption of best practices, standards, and governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead data architecture initiatives across enterprise-wide projects, ensuring alignment with business strategy.
  • Translate data strategy into clear, deliverable roadmaps and scalable solutions.
  • Partner with stakeholders across business and technology teams to align data architecture with analytics, governance, and operational needs.
  • Drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making, including identifying opportunities for new data-led services and insights.
  • Define and maintain enterprise data models (conceptual, logical, and physical).
  • Design and oversee data platforms across cloud and on-premise environments, including data lakes, warehouses, and master data management solutions.
  • Establish and enforce standards, principles, and best practices for data architecture, governance, and quality.
  • Provide architectural oversight throughout project life cycles, from high-level design to detailed implementation guidance.
  • Collaborate with security, compliance, and data governance stakeholders to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (eg GDPR).
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning, to enhance data capabilities.
  • Support vendor selection and management for data-related solutions and services.
  • Act as a bridge between business vision and technical execution.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Data Architect or similar senior data role.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture and life cycle management.
  • Expertise in data modelling (conceptual, logical, and physical) and data governance frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience designing data platforms using cloud technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with tools and services such as:

    • Azure Synapse Analytics

    • Azure Data Lake (Gen1/Gen2)

    • Azure Data Factory

    • Azure Databricks

    • Azure Cosmos DB, Blob Storage, Table Storage

    • Microsoft Fabric

    • Azure Purview

  • Experience with data warehousing, lakehouse architectures, and master data management solutions.
  • Knowledge of data integration techniques, APIs, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Familiarity with data cataloguing, metadata management, and data quality tools.
  • Understanding of data privacy regulations and compliance requirements.
  • TOGAF certification (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience working within professional services or regulated industries is advantageous.
