Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer

Department: Engineering
Reports To: Engineering Manager

Shift: Monday - Friday (phone number removed)

Job Purpose

The Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation, reliability, and efficiency of all production machinery, equipment, and site services. The role involves carrying out both reactive and planned maintenance activities, fault diagnosis, repairs, continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting compliance with health, safety, environmental, and food safety standards.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimising downtime, maximising equipment performance, and supporting production targets within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position requires a highly skilled engineer with strong electrical and mechanical expertise, capable of working independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

*

Maintain all production machinery, equipment, and site infrastructure to ensure maximum operational efficiency and reliability.

*

Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production issues, carrying out effective fault diagnosis and repairs to minimise downtime.

*

Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in accordance with maintenance schedules and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) systems.

*

Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

*

Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

*

Maintain accurate maintenance records, documentation, and reports using relevant systems.

*

PLC-controlled equipment

*

HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems

*

Electrical distribution and control systems

*

Safety circuits and emergency stop systems

*

Conveyors and automated handling systems, Multi-head weighers, Checkweighers, Flow wrappers, Overwrapping machinen,Pneumatic and hydraulic systems

General Duties

*

Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the role and business requirements.

*

Participate in training and development activities to maintain and enhance technical competencies.

*

Support out-of-hours call-outs and emergency breakdown situations where required.

Working Conditions

*

Fast-paced manufacturing environment operating 24/7.

*

Hands-on engineering role requiring flexibility and adaptability.

*

Comfortable working in chilled and ambient production environments.

*

Regular working at height and in confined engineering spaces where required.

*

Shift work, weekends, and overtime may be required.

*

May be required to work independently as the sole engineer on site during certain shifts.

Industry Experience

*

Previous engineering experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably:

*

Food Manufacturing

*

FMCG

*

Automotive Manufacturing

Qualifications

Essential

*

HNC in Engineering or equivalent recognised engineering qualification.

*

Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering qualification.

*

Proven multi-skilled maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.

Desirable

*

IET 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.

*

MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) Certification..

*

PLC programming and advanced diagnostics training
