SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary
Wakefield
Full-time, 8:00am – 3:00pm
Starting September

Looking for a role where you can genuinely change a young person’s day, every single day? You might have just found it.

We’re working with a welcoming secondary school in Wakefield that’s on the lookout for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team this September. This isn’t a sit-on-the-sidelines kind of role. You’ll be right in the mix, supporting students with a range of additional needs, from behavioural challenges to varied learning needs, helping them feel understood, supported, and ready to succeed.

What you’ll be doing
No two days look the same, and that’s part of the magic. You’ll be:

Supporting students 1:1, building trust and confidence where it matters most
Leading small group sessions, helping learners engage in a way that works for them
Working alongside teachers to adapt learning and keep students on track
Supporting both behaviour and learning, with patience, consistency, and a calm approach
Celebrating the small wins, because they matter just as much as the big ones
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to have done this exact role before, but you do need the right attitude. We’re looking for someone who is:

Outgoing and approachable, someone students feel comfortable around
Friendly, with a natural ability to build relationships
Keen to learn and develop, open to growing your skills in SEN support
Resilient and positive, even on the tougher days
Genuinely passionate about helping young people thrive
Why this role?
Because it’s more than a job. It’s a chance to be that person a student remembers. The one who helped them stay in class, understand a topic, or simply feel seen.

If you’re someone who brings energy, empathy, and a bit of personality to everything you do, this could be a brilliant next step.

Ready to get started?
Apply now and let’s have a chat. September will be here before we know it.

And if you’re not already Thrive trained, now’s the perfect time to get involved. It’s a great way to boost your confidence in supporting students with emotional and social needs, and schools absolutely love it.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQs on the Protocol Education website for further details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Protocol Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.

We offer FREE online safeguarding and Prevent Duty training to all our workers. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and subscribe to the DBS Update Service.

Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please see visit the Protocol Education website
