Salary: £35,560 per annum

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week, Monday - Friday)

The Opportunity

Are you looking for a teaching role where you can change the trajectory of a young person's life?

We are recruiting for a passionate Functional Skills Tutor to join an innovative alternative education provider. Many of the young people we support have faced significant barriers in mainstream education. In this role, you won't just teach Maths and English-you will act as a mentor, advocate, and trusted role model, helping learners rebuild their confidence, discover their strengths, and build independence.

If you are empathetic, resilient, and driven to make a visible social impact, this environment offers the chance to transform futures every single day.

What You Will Be Doing

Inspiring Classrooms: Plan and deliver fun, engaging, and highly inclusive Functional Skills Maths and English lessons from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2.

Targeted Support: Provide tailored in-class interventions to support individual learning needs, helping young people navigate challenges and prepare for exams.

Progress & Data Tracking: Monitor learner engagement, analyse progress data to bridge learning gaps, and maintain accurate records to meet high quality standards.

Collaborative Growth: Work closely with a supportive lead team to develop inclusive course materials, participating in a culture built on trust and professional development.

Holistic Support: Occasionally assist with student transport (pick-ups/drop-offs) and participate in wider engagement activities to build strong relationships.

What We Are Looking For

Qualifications: A Level 5 (or above) teaching qualification is essential. GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English is required. Additional qualifications in SEND, Youth Work, Safeguarding, or IAG are highly desirable.

Experience: Proven experience teaching Functional Skills (Maths & English) and supporting post-16 young people, particularly those with SEND or from alternative provision backgrounds.

Skills: Strong organisation, confidence tracking progress data/exam coordination, and proficiency in standard IT systems.

Key Attributes: High resilience, enthusiasm, a solutions-focused mindset, and the ability to manage challenging situations with calm and respect.
