ABOUT THE DEPUTY SENCO ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and ambitious teacher to join a thriving Inclusion Team within a successful inner-city secondary school. The successful Deputy SENCO will play a key leadership role, supporting the strategic development of SEND provision whilst working closely with the Head of Inclusion/SENCO.

The school is renowned for its inclusive ethos and commitment to ensuring every student achieves their full potential. The successful Deputy SENCO will be joining a team that is highly respected across the school and plays a central role in improving outcomes for students with SEND.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPUTY SENCO

The successful Deputy SENCO will:

Support the Head of Inclusion/SENCO in leading the Inclusion Department.
Line manages Learning Support Assistants and oversee deployment and timetables.
Teach up to 30% of the timetable, including literacy and numeracy interventions.
Lead on Access Arrangements and liaise with external bodies including JCQ.
Support students with EHCPs and lead annual reviews and monitoring.
Work with vulnerable students and those with emotional and behavioural needs.
Liaise with specialist services and external agencies.
Train and coach teachers and support staff in SEND best practice.
Monitor student progress and help drive improvements in outcomes for SEND learners.
Deputise for the Head of Inclusion/SENCO when required.

THE IDEAL DEPUTY SENCO WILL HAVE

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
A minimum of two years' successful teaching experience.
Experience working with students with SEND and additional needs.
Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
The ability to analyse data and drive student progress.
Experience supporting students with emotional and behavioural needs.
A genuine passion for inclusion and improving life chances for young people.
A desire to progress towards a SENCO leadership role.

Desirable:

CCET qualification.
Certificate in Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements (AAC).
