Role: L3 Database Administrator (Snowflake / PostgreSQL / Greenplum)
Location: Glasgow (Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week)
Type: Contract (12 months)

Rate: £425 per day (Inside IR35)
We are seeking an experienced L3 Database Administrator to join a large-scale enterprise data environment within the financial services sector. The role focuses on administration, optimisation, and support of PostgreSQL, Greenplum, and Snowflake platforms in a complex, data-intensive environment.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring deep expertise across database administration, performance tuning, data engineering support, and cloud-based data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
* Administer, maintain, and support PostgreSQL, Greenplum, and Snowflake database environments
* Manage database provisioning, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle activities
* Design and support scalable data models and architectures within Snowflake
* Work with data ingestion pipelines using tools such as Informatica or Talend
* Manage data migration activities using tools such as gpcopy with minimal downtime
* Perform performance tuning, query optimisation, and database health checks
* Handle database backup, recovery, and high availability strategies (including Patroni-based setups)
* Monitor and manage database bloat, statistics, and system performance
* Support troubleshooting using Greenplum utilities such as gpload, PXF, and GP-related tooling
* Automate database operations using Shell scripting, Python, or Ansible
* Work with structured and semi-structured data formats (JSON, XML, CSV)
* Ensure security, compliance, and operational best practices across environments
* Collaborate with engineering teams on ETL processes and data workflows
* Support cloud-based deployments across AWS, Azure, or GCP environments
Essential Skills
* Strong DBA experience across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and Greenplum
* Advanced SQL and complex query writing
* Experience with PostgreSQL administration (provisioning, upgrades, maintenance)
* Greenplum expertise including performance tuning, gpcopy, and system optimisation
* Snowflake experience including roles, schemas, data modelling, and architecture
* Strong scripting skills in Shell, Python, or Ansible
* Experience with Patroni and streaming replication for high availability
* Strong understanding of data pipelines and ETL concepts
Desirable Skills
* Experience with ETL tools such as Informatica or Talend
* Cloud platform experience (AWS / Azure / GCP)
* Exposure to large-scale enterprise data environments
