We are recruiting on behalf of a leading independent electrical engineering organisation that delivers specialist engineering solutions across the UK and internationally. Operating across sectors including power generation, renewables, utilities, infrastructure, manufacturing, rail, marine, and defence, the business supports clients with the design, maintenance, repair, upgrade, and installation of critical electrical assets and rotating machinery. With a strong engineering heritage and continued investment in renewable energy technologies, the organisation is playing a key role in the development and support of large-scale Hydro Generators and other sustainable power solutions.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering Department, providing expertise in the design, manufacture, and repair of complex machinery.

The role will support the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across a variety of projects, with a strong focus on advancing the organisation’s growth in renewable energy, particularly through the development of large Hydro Generators. Due to the nature of the work undertaken by the client, candidates must be security-clearance eligible and therefore hold a full British passport

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the mechanical design of machinery, including stators, rotors, assemblies, upgrades, and retrofit projects

* Provide engineering leadership across all project phases, working closely with clients and stakeholders

* Carry out diagnostics, condition analysis, and life-cycle evaluations, producing clear technical reports

* Deliver service and maintenance support to ensure reliability and long-term asset performance

* Partner with tendering and project management teams on bids, proposals, and execution

* Develop and implement test methodologies for dynamic machinery testing, analysing performance data

* Perform root cause analysis on machinery failures and recommend corrective actions

* Produce repair instructions and technical documentation to guide the recovery of failed or degraded equipment

Your Skills and Experience

* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

* Experience in detailed design of rotating machinery such as motors, generators, turbines, pumps, or similar equipment

* Strong expertise in mechanical design, simulation, and testing methodologies

* Collaborate with CAD engineers and draughtsmen to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing processes

* Proficient in diagnostics, failure analysis, and life assessment of machinery

* Knowledge of manufacturing, commissioning, and service activities for large-scale equipment

* Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach

* Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior engineers
