Design Manager – Residential Construction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Design Manager with an Architectural background to join a leading contractor delivering high-quality residential developments. This position is available on either a permanent or fixed-term basis, with an immediate start available.

You will be responsible for managing the design process throughout the delivery of residential projects, including apartment schemes, mixed-use developments, and housing projects. Joining the project during RIBA Stages 5-6, you will work closely with the Project and Commercial teams to ensure the effective coordination, management, and delivery of design information throughout the construction phase.

Key Responsibilities

* Managing and coordinating the design process throughout the construction phase of residential developments.

* Liaising with architects, consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure design information is fully coordinated and aligned with project programmes.

* Reviewing drawings, technical submissions, and design documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications, buildability requirements, and quality standards.

* Managing RFIs, design changes, and design-related queries, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on programme delivery.

* Monitoring design deliverables to ensure information is issued in accordance with project deadlines and construction requirements.

* Supporting the Project Team in the successful delivery of high-quality residential schemes.

* Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, statutory requirements, planning conditions, NHBC standards, and client specifications.

* Identifying and mitigating design risks while driving value engineering opportunities where appropriate.

* Facilitating design team meetings and maintaining clear communication between all project stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

* Proven experience as a Design Manager, Assistant Design Manager, or Senior Design Coordinator within a main contractor, developer, or specialist residential contractor environment.

* Architectural background with a strong understanding of construction delivery and design management processes.

* Experience working on projects during RIBA Stages 5-6.

* Previous experience delivering residential developments, apartment schemes, mixed-use projects, or housing developments is highly desirable.

* Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, residential construction standards, and technical detailing.

* Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.

* Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, consultants, subcontractors, and client representatives.

* Proficiency in design management and document control platforms.
