Estimator / Senior Estimator – Civil Engineering

Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive salary + benefits
Sector: Civil Engineering / Main Contractor

Fulcrum Recruitment is working with a well-established civil engineering contractor that is looking to appoint an Estimator or Senior Estimator to support a growing pipeline of infrastructure and public realm projects across the North East.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineering Estimator who is looking to join a respected regional contractor with a strong order book, varied work and long-term progression opportunities.

The company delivers a wide range of design-and-build civil engineering schemes, including highways, roads, drainage, structures, footpaths, cycleways, flood alleviation and public realm improvements.

The Role

As Estimator / Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially sound tender submissions across a range of civil engineering projects.

You will work closely with senior management, pre-construction, commercial and operational teams to build robust estimates, assess risk and support successful tender submissions.

This role would suit someone with strong attention to detail, good technical understanding and previous experience pricing civil engineering works.

Key Responsibilities

* Prepare accurate tender estimates for civil engineering projects

* Build estimates using labour, plant, materials, prelims and programme-related costs

* Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and scope of works

* Issue subcontractor and supplier enquiries for specialist packages

* Analyse subcontractor returns and ensure pricing is complete and accurate

* Identify risks, opportunities and exclusions throughout the tender process

* Support tender settlements and present pricing information to senior management

* Liaise with internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors to validate costs

* Ensure submissions are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines

* Support continuous improvement within the estimating function

Candidate Requirements

* Previous estimating experience within civil engineering

* Experience pricing schemes such as highways, roads, drainage, public realm, structures, flood alleviation or similar civils works

* Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and tender information

* Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail

* Good communication, organisation and time management skills

* Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work under pressure

* Experience using Causeway would be advantageous but is not essential

* A background in civil engineering, quantity surveying or construction-related discipline would be beneficial

The Opportunity

This is a strong long-term opportunity with a reputable regional civil engineering contractor offering a varied workload, secure pipeline and genuine scope for development.

The company can consider candidates at Estimator or Senior Estimator level, depending on experience.

Package

* Competitive salary, dependent on experience

* Company benefits package

* Pension and standard industry benefits

* Regional civil engineering workload

* Strong pipeline of secured and upcoming projects

* Opportunity to progress within an established pre-construction team

* Stable, well-regarded main contractor environment
