Job Title: R&D Applications Engineer
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
R&D Applications Engineer required to join a specialist Sensor Engineering R&D team focused on the development and application of advanced sensors and fluid sensing technology.
This R&D Applications Engineer position is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge sensors in a growing, collaborative engineering environment.
Salary up to £45,000 + pension and bonus

This R&D Applications Engineer role is a technical, non-sales position centred on applications engineering. The R&D Applications Engineer will support the evaluation of how bespoke sensors can be applied to real-world engineering challenges across fluid monitoring, fluid analysis, and process environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the design and development of test rigs and carry out sensor testing, validation, and experimentation
• Work within a Sensor Engineering team to develop and apply advanced sensors and fluid sensing solutions
• Collaborate with external engineers and technical partners to assess applications for sensor technology
• Attend industry events, conferences, and engineering sites to evaluate the use of sensors in real-world environments
• Contribute to feasibility studies and pre-commercial application of sensors and sensing technology
Skills & Experience
• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or Chemistry
• 2–4 years’ experience in an engineering or technical environment
• Strong practical and problem-solving skills within engineering or technical roles
• Experience working in collaborative engineering or technical teams
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to engineers and stakeholders
• Willingness to travel to customer sites, engineering facilities, and industry events
