Responsibilities and duties of the Principal Electrical Engineer role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager you will:

Lead the design and development of electrical systems for complex maritime and engineering projects.
Define system architectures, select components, and ensure compliance with electrical safety and EMC standards.
Produce and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable assembly documentation.
Support system integration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
Conduct design reviews and ensure technical accuracy across specifications and engineering documentation.
Collaborate with software, mechanical, and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Mentor and develop junior engineers to enhance team capability.
Provide technical leadership and guidance across electrical engineering activities and project teams.
Work with suppliers and customers to resolve technical challenges and support project delivery.Maintain and develop electrical design data packs and associated technical documentation.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of electrical system design, power distribution, control systems, and safety compliance.
Experience using electrical CAD software packages.
Knowledge of CE/UKCA directives, EMC regulations, electrical safety requirements, and relevant industry standards.
Experience designing for cost, manufacturability, and testability.
Understanding of system integration, validation, and debugging activities.
Familiarity with PLCs, motor control systems, and industrial automation would be advantageous.
Previous experience providing technical leadership within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Eligibility to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
