HVAC Site Project Engineer

Sector: Nuclear New Build / Major Infrastructure

Location: Hinkley Site, Somerset (Bridgwater area)

Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Site-Based with flexible working)

The Opportunity:

We are partnering with a primary delivery framework partner at Hinkley Point C (HPC) to recruit an experienced HVAC Site Project Engineer. This crucial, front-line role serves as the primary technical bridge between the central end-to-end design organisation, the principal mechanical installation contractors, and the site-based design offices.

As bulk mechanical installation scales up across the project, your core objective will be to provide rapid, reactive engineering support to unblock technical queries, resolve design conflicts, and ensure the seamless progress of heavy ventilation and climate control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Interface & Troubleshooting: Act as the primary HVAC engineering liaison for site building leads and mechanical contractors, unblocking technical issues in the field to maintain construction schedule continuity.

Field Change Management: Review, validate, and process Field Change Requests (FCRs) and Requests for Information (RFIs). Ensure all modifications are clearly characterised with accurate root-cause descriptions and scope impacts before formal submission.

Non-Conformance & Remediation: Assess site Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). Lead technical optioneering reviews to ensure proposed mechanical remediation plans are practical, cost-effective, and aligned with project parameters.

Trend Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Collaborate routinely with installation teams to analyze FCR/NCR trends, identifying systemic issues and proposing pre-emptive design mitigations based on past construction data.

Quality & Engineering Surveillance: Perform design and engineering surveillance on installation drawings and execution documentation, identifying and reporting any discrepancies through approved site quality processes.

Standard Field Solutions: Monitor the deployment of standardised field engineering fixes to ensure repeatable issues are handled efficiently without redundant design cycles.

Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate the flow of technical communication between front-office design teams and site contractors, ensuring engineering data is compiled and detailed design updates are understood by installation crews.

Progress Performance Tracking: Assist construction project managers in establishing engineering-based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track modification throughput and site progress.

What We're Looking For:

Nuclear HVAC Expertise: Proven engineering experience focusing on nuclear-grade HVAC systems, industrial ventilation containment, or complex mechanical components within multi-disciplinary projects.

Fast-Paced Delivery: A meticulous and rigorous engineer who thrives under schedule-driven time pressures and works autonomously to resolve complex field problems.

Technical Frameworks: Strong capability to conduct engineering assessments against core project documents, procurement specifications, and Constructability, Commissionability, Operability, and Maintainability (CCOM) requirements.

Stakeholder Influence: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the proven ability to liaise with and influence a diverse mix of site supervisors, commercial teams, and design authorities.

Desirable Attributes:

Master's degree or equivalent higher qualification in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.

Five or more years of experience operating within the UK nuclear sector or a similar high-integrity, safety-critical environment.

A detailed understanding of Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) systems and associated heavy construction methodologies.

A working knowledge of the French language is advantageous due to cross-border design interfaces, but not essential.

Solid understanding of the CDM Regulations and high-compliance safety frameworks
