About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health team within the Community Safety, Enforcement and Business Regulation service.
In this role, you will play a key part in delivering environmental health and public protection services, contributing to the Council's corporate priorities and improving standards across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of commercial premises and enforce environmental health legislation
Audit HACCP systems and food safety management systems
Carry out approval inspections of high-risk food businesses
Investigate service requests, complaints, incidents, and complex cases
Lead and undertake food poisoning investigations
Enforce food safety legislation, including the service of Hygiene Improvement Notices and Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices
Support delivery of the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS)
Ensure compliance with brand standards and the Food Law Code of Practice
Provide advice and guidance on allergen awareness and prepacked for direct sale (PPDS) requirements
Lead targeted operations and projects across areas such as:
Health & Safety
Food standards
Infectious disease control
Licensing enforcement
Prepare reports, case files, and prosecution documentation
Build strong partnerships with businesses and stakeholders to drive compliance
Provide expert advice to businesses and the public
Manage complex investigations through to resolution or prosecution
Support, coach, and guide junior officers (PO3/PO4 levels)
About You
You will be a qualified Environmental Health professional with strong technical knowledge and enforcement experience.
Essential requirements:
To hold an appropriate Environmental Health Registration Board approved academic qualification i.e. an MSc, BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Environmental Health awarded by EHRB or REHIS
To be EHORB registered or have passed the CIEH Assessment of Professional Competence (including deemed compliance via grandfather rights) or equivalent
Evidence of continuing professional development
