Senior FPGA Engineer | Cambridgeshire

Location: Cambridge

Salary: Competitive + Comprehensive Benefits

Sector: Defence, Aerospace, & Communications

Are you an FPGA specialist who thrives on variety? Do you enjoy moving beyond "standard" implementation to solve complex problems in Radar, Comms, and Sensing?

We are representing a world-class technology busienss seeking a high-caliber FPGA Engineer to join their multidisciplinary team. This isn't a "rinse and repeat" role; you will be working on diverse, high-stakes client projects where your architectural decisions directly impact the success of next-generation IP.

The Core Challenge

Working at the intersection of hardware and software, you will translate ambitious customer requirements into robust, high-performance FPGA implementations. Your focus will predominantly be on AMD (Xilinx) silicon, specifically Zynq SoC devices, within a fast-paced, collaborative consultancy environment.

Key Technical Requirements

FPGA Expertise: Strong proficiency in HDL (VHDL/Verilog) and the AMD Vivado toolchain.

DSP Knowledge: A solid grounding in Digital Signal Processing is essential for this role.

System Design: Experience in simulation, test, and validation across the full development lifecycle.

Collaborative Mindset: Comfort working alongside Hardware and Software teams on integrated systems.

What Sets You Apart?

Experience with RF systems or complex sensing applications.

A multidisciplinary background (familiarity with electronics or C/C++ firmware).

The ability to engage with clients to discuss "the art of the possible" during pre-contract scoping.

Leadership potential-the desire to mentor junior engineers and lead technical workstreams.

Why This Role?

Unlike a traditional product-based company, this consultancy offers the chance to work across multiple sectors. You will be encouraged to broaden your skill set and adapt to new technologies constantly. Whether you are a deep-level FPGA expert or a versatile engineer looking to expand into new domains, this environment rewards curiosity and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality FPGA/DSP designs with minimal supervision.

Contribute to design reviews, technical proposals, and project time estimates.

Identify technical risks early and communicate progress to stakeholders.

Work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless system integration.

Ready to push the boundaries of FPGA technology? Apply today with your CV to discuss this opportunity in more detail
