Plater

Location: Newcastle upon Tyne

Agency: Search Consultancy

Payment Terms: Excellent PAYE Rates (Plus Holiday Pay & Pension)

Position: Long-Term (Temp-to-Perm Contract)

Shift Options: Choice of Day or Night Shifts

Search Consultancy is currently recruiting for an experienced Plater to join a well-established fabrication facility in Newcastle. This is a long-term position offering excellent stability, with a direct path from temporary to permanent employment for the right candidate.

We are looking for a skilled tradesperson capable of interpreting technical drawings, prepping materials, and fabricating assemblies safely and efficiently to exact specifications.

Shift Patterns & Earning Potential

We are offering two distinct shift patterns to suit your availability, both paid at highly competitive PAYE rates:

Option 1: Night Shift

Schedule: 4 Nights per week (12-hour shifts)

Benefit: Includes a premium shift uplift rate for unsociable hours.

Option 2: Day Shift

Schedule: 5 Days per week (Standard 42-hour working week)

Key Responsibilities

Plating & Fabrication: Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and weld symbols to mark out, cut, and shape steel sections and plates.

Assembly & Tack Welding: Setting out, positioning, and aligning components accurately using clamps and fixtures, before securing them with tack welds ahead of final production.

Material Preparation: Operating fabrication machinery safely, including ironworkers, rollers, drills, guillotines, and oxy-propane cutting equipment to prep steel parts.

Precision Measurement: Checking dimensions, squareness, and alignments against strict engineering tolerances using standard measuring instruments.

Defect Rectification: Identifying discrepancies in materials or drawings and carrying out necessary modifications or repairs to ensure parts fit perfectly.

Safety & Maintenance: Adhering strictly to workshop safety regulations, maintaining a tidy workstation, and looking after plant equipment and tooling.

Requirements

Site Cards: A valid ACE (Assuring Competence in Engineering) Card or a CSCS Card (Blue Skilled Worker or Gold Advanced Craft) is required.

Qualifications: Must hold the relevant NVQ or City & Guilds qualifications in fabrication/engineering to support your card.

Experience: Proven track record working as a Plater/Fabricator within a busy workshop or manufacturing environment (structural steel experience not essential).

Tools & PPE: Your own standard hand tools, measuring equipment, and 5-point site PPE.

Reliability: A punctual, professional approach to long-term shift work.

Right to Work: Valid right to work in the UK.

Why Partner with Search?

Temp-to-Perm Progression: This is not a short-term stopgap. The client is looking to invest in long-term staff, offering a secure transition to a permanent contract.

Full PAYE Benefits: Peace of mind with standard PAYE employment, including accrued holiday pay, statutory pension contributions, and no self-assessment or umbrella company stresses.

Flexible Shift Premiums: Boost your earnings with a substantial rate uplift on our 4-night schedule.

Search is an equal opportunities recruiter and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified applicants, regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age
