Configuration Manager

You will be joining one of Europe’s fastest-growing and most innovative defence technology companies, focused on protecting lives by neutralising emerging threats and advancing next-generation defensive capabilities.

This is a pivotal hire as the first Configuration Manager in the business, giving you the rare opportunity to build an entire configuration management function from the ground up. You will define, implement and continuously improve the processes, systems and frameworks that will underpin engineering excellence for years to come.

In this role, you will own the configuration and change management lifecycle across the organisation, ensuring that all technical data is controlled, released and maintained to the highest possible standards. You will work closely with engineering teams to capture, structure and manage data effectively, enabling clarity, traceability and quality across complex programmes.

You will establish and manage the PLM environment, including Teamcenter, creating scalable systems that support rapid innovation while maintaining robust governance. A big part of the role will involve building product and project baselines, supporting system and subsystem structures, and ensuring that configuration activities are delivered in line with agreed plans.

You will also drive and track change control processes, ensuring that all updates to baselines are accurately implemented and documented. Supporting key lifecycle activities such as PCA, FCA and FAI will be an important part of ensuring products meet both technical and regulatory expectations.

Reporting directly into the Chief Engineer, you will be working in a highly collaborative, low-bureaucracy environment where your ideas will be heard and acted upon quickly. The pace is fast, the environment is dynamic, and you will have the freedom to shape how configuration management is done.

The role is based fully on site in Cambridge, working alongside a highly driven team in an environment built for speed, collaboration and impact. In return, you will receive an excellent base salary alongside incredibly lucrative equity options, giving you the opportunity to share directly in the long-term success and growth of the business.

As the company continues its rapid expansion, you will also have the opportunity to play a key part in growing the function, with scope to build and lead a team over time.

Essential requirements

Proven experience in Configuration Management within defence or aerospace environments
Strong understanding of configuration management principles, standards and best practices
Experience working with PLM systems (Teamcenter highly desirable)
Ability to implement and improve processes in fast-paced or evolving environments
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders
Configuration Management qualification or equivalent practical experience
Must be eligible for or able to obtain SC clearance
