Are you a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant looking to make a genuine difference in a child’s educational journey?

is currently recruiting for an experienced and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child with autism in KS1 at a welcoming and supportive primary school in Bordesley Green, Birmingham.

This rewarding full-time role will begin in September 2026 and continue until July 2027 as part of a maternity cover arrangement, with the possibility of extension depending on the school’s needs.

‍ About the Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with autism within a KS1 classroom
Support the child in accessing learning and engaging with classroom activities
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support plans
Use effective strategies to support communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction
Help maintain routines and support transitions throughout the school day
Build a positive and trusting relationship with the child and their family
Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and SEN professionals

✅ What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from candidates who:

Have previous experience supporting children with autism or additional needs, ideally within a primary school setting
Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a calm, nurturing approach
Hold a relevant qualification such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant (or equivalent)
Are flexible, proactive, and able to adapt to individual learning needs
Work effectively as part of a team and communicate confidently with staff and parents
Are committed to safeguarding and supporting pupil wellbeing
