Construction Manager (Roadways, Drainage & Tarmac)
Location: Leicester
Contract Type: 3-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Rate: Competitive Day Rate (DOE)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee civil infrastructure and surfacing works on a fast-paced project based in Leicester. The successful candidate will have strong experience managing roadways, drainage, and tarmac/asphalt operations, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to specification.
This is initially a 3-month contract with the possibility of extension depending on project requirements and performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day site operations across highways, drainage, and surfacing works
* Coordinate subcontractors, labour, plant, and material deliveries
* Ensure works are completed in line with programme deadlines and quality standards
* Oversee road construction, kerbing, drainage installation, and tarmac surfacing activities
* Conduct site inspections and ensure compliance with HSE regulations
* Liaise with clients, engineers, local authorities, and project stakeholders
* Produce progress reports and attend site meetings
* Identify and resolve site issues efficiently to minimise delays
* Ensure RAMS, permits, and site documentation are maintained correctly
Required Experience & Skills
* Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager within civil engineering/highways projects
* Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and workstreams
* Strong understanding of CDM regulations and site safety requirements
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Essential Qualifications
* SMSTS
* CSCS Card
* First Aid at Work
Desirable Experience
* Experience working on local authority or highways frameworks
* Knowledge of NEC contracts
* Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and programmes
