HEALTH AND SAFETY Coordinator

Morson are looking for a Health and Safety Coordinator to work for one of our aerospace clients on a contracting basis.

1. Job Purpose

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s health and safety management systems. The role provides strong capability in risk management, regulatory compliance, incident investigation, and safety culture development. The post holder supports all operational and engineering activities—ensuring safe working practices, legal compliance, and a proactive approach to hazard identification and mitigation. This role acts as a key advisor to leadership and a champion for safety excellence across the organisation.

2. Key Responsibilities

2.1 Health & Safety Management System (HSMS)

Maintain and improve the organisation’s Health and Safety Management System in line with HASAWA 1974, ISO 45001, and other applicable regulations.
Develop and update H&S policies, procedures, and guidance documents.
Ensure effective implementation of safety standards across engineering, manufacturing, and office environments.
Monitor compliance and drive continuous improvement of safety processes.
Carry out COSHH Assessments.
2.2 Risk Assessment & Hazard Management

Lead risk assessments, method statements, and hazard identification activities.
Support teams in developing safe systems of work and control measures.
Ensure risk assessments are regularly reviewed and updated.
Provide expert advice on risk mitigation strategies and regulatory requirements.
2.3 Incident Investigation & Corrective Action

Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
Conduct root‑cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
Track the implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.
Produce incident reports and communicate lessons learned across the organisation.
2.4 Training, Awareness & Safety Culture

Develop and deliver H&S training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
Support managers in promoting a positive safety culture and behavioural safety practices.
Ensure employees understand their responsibilities under health and safety legislation.
Facilitate safety committees, workshops, and engagement activities.
2.5 Compliance, Audits & Reporting

Conduct internal H&S audits and support external audits or regulatory inspections.
Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.
Monitor H&S performance metrics and provide regular reports to leadership.
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including RIDDOR reporting.
2.6 Operational Support & Collaboration

Provide H&S support to engineering, manufacturing, test, and office teams.
Participate in design reviews to ensure safety‑by‑design principles are applied.
Support contractor management, site inductions, and permit‑to‑work processes.
Collaborate with facilities, HR, and operations teams on cross‑functional safety initiatives.
3. Knowledge, Skills & Experience

3.1 Essential

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification.
Experience managing health and safety within engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, defence, or similar high‑risk environments.
Strong understanding of UK H&S legislation including HASAWA 1974, PUWER, COSHH, RIDDOR, and ISO 45001.
Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder‑management skills.
Ability to analyse safety data and produce meaningful insights.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
3.2 Desirable

Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards it.
Experience supporting safety in test environments, laboratories, or high‑hazard operations.
Knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001).
Experience with behavioural safety programmes or cultural change initiatives.
Familiarity with digital H&S tools or management systems.
4. Security Clearance

This role may be subject to UK Security Clearance requirements (BPSS, SC, or higher). The post holder must be eligible and able to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance.
