Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Infrastructure Consultant to support a short-term project for a secure site operation near Aylesbury. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical skills across virtualization, Legacy systems, network audits, and Oracle database administration, along with a proven history of working in MoD environments. This role demands strong hands-on problem-solving abilities, detailed technical documentation skills, and a pragmatic make it work mindset.

Key Requirements

1. Location & Travel

   • Must be based in the UK and able to travel to the project site in Buckinghamshire.

2. Security Clearance

   • Valid SC (Security Check) clearance is mandatory.

   • Must be authorized to handle Official Sensitive classified data and have prior clearance through the UK Ministry of Defence.

3. Professional Experience (as evidenced by CV)

   • Proficient in VMWare or equivalent virtualization platforms.

   • Skilled in configuring and maintaining Legacy operating systems (eg, Windows Server 2008/2012, Windows 7).

   • Strong background in porting, running, and optimizing Legacy software, with a hands-on approach.

   • Demonstrated experience collaborating with MoD clients, understanding their protocols, safety, and security standards.

   • Familiarity with Agile/sprint-based project management and planning cycles.

Technical Expertise

• Network infrastructure system architecture and documentation.

• Production of RMADS (Risk Management Accreditation Document Set).

• Execution and reporting of software/hardware audits.

• In-depth network topology inspection and mapping.

• Generation of technical reports assessing:

  • Hardware/software inventory

  • Connectivity and backup strategies

  • System vulnerabilities and risk areas

• Platform Proficiencies:

  • Nutanix infrastructure

  • VMWare (including performance/utilization reporting)

  • Oracle Database administration and backup validation

Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

• Access and audit virtual machines (VMs) to:

  • Verify resource allocation

  • Monitor performance metrics

• Review backup jobs to:

  • Track execution frequency, last restore, and historical trends

• Conduct a physical inspection of the server room:

  • Identify any undocumented hardware

  • Verify active software and backup processes

• Engage with managed server providers to:

  • Access Oracle database snapshots

  • Validate backup strategies and obtain restoration evidence

• Document all findings in a clear, structured report outlining:

  • Current system state

  • Backup and recovery infrastructure

  • Hardware/software risks and recommendations
