Location: Telford (Ideally 2 days/week onsite
End Date: 30 November 2025
Clearance: Active SC Clearance required (mandatory due to timesacles of the project)
Rate & Engagement: Inside IR35
Overview:
An experienced Software Engineer is required to join a multi-disciplinary team supporting a large-scale programme within UK central government. This role involves a combination of supporting complex live services and contributing to ongoing project development in a fast-paced agile environment.
Candidates must hold active SC clearance and have recent experience working on central government digital services.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and resolve live incidents and bugs using tools like ServiceNow
Triaging and prioritising incoming issues based on severity and business impact
Implement fixes and enhancements directly or in collaboration with other technical teams
Contribute to project development tasks as required
Collaborate with Scrum Masters, DevOps engineers, testers and delivery leads within an established team
Essential Skills & Technologies:
Java (including Spring Boot and REST API development)
Oracle Tuxedo
WebLogic
SQL and PL/SQL
Shell Scripting (eg, Bash, Korn)
Strong understanding of live service support processes in government or regulated environments
Desirable/Nice-to-Have Skills:
OpenAPI, JSON, SOAP
WebMethods
Maestro or Job Scheduler tooling
Scala
Wiremock
C
Trillium
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
Team Environment:
You'll be working in a well-established agile delivery team (approx. 14-16 people) comprising delivery leads, developers, testers, and DevOps specialists. The environment includes a mix of Legacy systems and modern services, requiring both adaptability and technical breadth.
