Founding Software Engineer
Up to £90,000 + equity
UK Remote
We're working with an early-stage startup that's on a mission to transform how frontline roles are hired. Their product is an AI-powered, voice-first platform designed to streamline and humanise the hiring process - already live, gaining traction, and used by paying customers.
They're now looking for a Founding Engineer - their first in-house technical hire. This is a unique opportunity to join a startup with strong early momentum, work on a product already in production, and have a major hand in shaping both its future and the internal engineering culture.
As Founding Engineer, you'll:
- Take ownership of the technical stack and evolve the system architecture
- Write and maintain clean, scalable code across the full stack (Node.js, Next.js, MongoDB)
- Improve system performance, reliability, and monitoring as usage scales
- Develop internal tooling and automation to support fast, safe deployment
- Collaborate closely with Product to deliver new customer-facing features
- Help establish engineering practices and play a key role in growing the team
You'll initially work alongside a small group of experienced contract engineers who've built the product to date, with plans to scale the in-house team in the near term.
Tech Environment
- Stack: Next.js, Node.js
- Infrastructure: MongoDB Atlas, Heroku
- Tools: Auth0 (auth), AWS S3 (file storage), WebSockets
- Voice & AI: Twilio, OpenAI, ElevenLabs
Who We're Looking For
- Be a senior full-stack engineer with experience in fast-moving startup environments
- Have a strong track record of architectural decision-making and scaling systems
- Be comfortable working across the stack and building quickly from 0?1
- Prioritise clean, maintainable code and performance
- Thrive in a small team, wearing many hats and taking full ownership of projects
