Field-Based Engineer - Job Description
About the Role
Our client is looking for a Field-Based Engineer to carry out the installation, repair, and servicing of mechanical and electrical equipment at customer sites. This is a mobile role that involves travel and hands-on technical work in a variety of environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Installing, maintaining, and repairing equipment
Diagnosing faults and completing effective repairs
Managing and maintaining vehicle stock
Accurately completing reports and documentation for internal processing and customer records
Delivering excellent customer service while representing the company on-siteAs the face of the business, the engineer must uphold high standards of professionalism and work towards meeting service targets, including timely attendance and first-time fix rates.
Requirements
Full UK driving licence
Proven experience in fault finding, diagnosis, and repair within plant, automotive, or industrial machinery
Ability to interpret technical manuals and CAD drawings
Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge
Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivated and enthusiastic, with a proactive attitude
Capable of working independently and as part of a team
Flexible and adaptable with a strong problem-solving approach
Basic computer literacy
Friendly, customer-focused approachDesirable Criteria
Awareness of LOLER and PUWER legislation
NVQ qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering
Possession of a CSCS card
Previous field service experienceThis role includes opportunities for ongoing training and development to support continued technical and professional growth.
The role is Monday to Friday, with 1 in 4 weekends on call. Salary £40-£42k (OTE £50-£55k)
