Technical Writer | Outside IR35 | Central Gov | August Start

SR2 is recruiting a Technical Writer on behalf of a specialist consultancy for a major central government digital programme. This is a contract role, outside IR35, with a strong remote setup and occasional travel to London.

You will be responsible for creating clear, high-quality documentation that supports both internal teams and external government services. This includes technical guidance, API documentation, and improving existing content to ensure it meets GOV.UK standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Write technical documentation for internal teams and public-facing services, including API reference materials and technical guidance
• Align content with GOV.UK style and internal content review processes
• Work with technical experts to identify and fill knowledge gaps across the programme, including design decision records
• Improve and iterate on existing documentation based on feedback and evolving requirements
• Collaborate with other technical writers to ensure consistency and coherence across services and user journeys

• Strong experience as a Technical Writer within central government or public sector environments
• Familiarity with Agile delivery teams and multidisciplinary ways of working
• Proven ability to translate technical detail into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences
• Comfortable working with engineers, product teams, and service designers
• Awareness of GDS principles and documentation best practices

• Outside IR35 - c£450/day
• Start Date: 1st August
• Initial 3-month contract with likely extension
• Remote first, with occasional London travel
