OpenVMS Application Architect - Mainframe Modernisation - Remote

We are supporting a global client on a major transformation journey supporting a large-scale public sector programme. This project involves the modernisation of a critical system - as it transitions from an ageing OpenVMS environment to a modern Linux-based infrastructure.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of the migration effort, leading the design and delivery of the new system architecture. You'll be responsible for mapping out the technical approach, modernising existing Cobol applications, and ensuring the new Linux-based platform replicates the functionality and performance of the Legacy system. Your input will be central to both the strategic and hands-on aspects of the migration, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption.

We're looking for someone with deep experience in OpenVMS and Cobol development, particularly in system-level design and application support. Strong knowledge of DCL Scripting, Rdb databases, and recent work with Linux system development is essential. Familiarity with Micro Focus Cobol, as well as Scripting in Perl or Python, would be a significant advantage. You should be comfortable engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders and confident in your ability to lead complex technical conversations.
