R Technical Lead - Risk Infrastructure Migration (Contract)

Summary:
We're looking for a senior R developer and technical lead to own the migration of a complex, Legacy R-based risk framework into a modern cloud-native stack (MDS and Monet). You'll lead technical design, refactoring, and deployment of the entire R package ecosystem, as well as build pipelines, validate datasets, and ensure the new infrastructure is production-grade and scalable.
This role requires deep fluency in R, strong DevOps experience, and comfort navigating complex, regulated financial environments with Legacy systems, fractured datasets, and a lot of moving pieces.
Key Responsibilities:

Serve as the technical lead and R subject matter expert for the Risk team during the MDS/Monet migration

Migrate and refactor the existing R-Framework (packages, interfaces, dependencies) from Legacy platforms
-
Adapt and integrate REST APIs and JSON data structures into the R framework for modern interoperability
-
Lead reconciliation of large datasets across Legacy and cloud platforms, ensuring strict data integrity and consistency
-
Design and implement CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) for secure and efficient deployment of R codebases
-
Work closely with Risk stakeholders to modernize their code management, versioning, and deployment practices
-
Advise on best practices for cloud-native R development and scalable architecture
Required Skills & Experience:

Deep R expertise - experience building, refactoring, and maintaining large R codebases and custom packages

Strong experience in Python, relational databases, and data engineering workflows
-
Proficient with REST APIs, JSON, and R packages for web integration (eg, httr, jsonlite, plumber)
-
Proven experience reconciling and validating large, high-integrity datasets in production environments

CI/CD tooling: GitHub, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps

Experience working in cloud environments (Azure preferred, but AWS/GCP acceptable)

Ability to navigate and reverse-engineer Legacy enterprise systems
