Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to be involved in the full product development life cycle-from initial concept through to manufacturing-for innovative and technically complex products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise mechanical designs using CAD software (ProE/Creo preferred).

  • Design components and assemblies for plastic injection moulding and sheet metal fabrication with consideration for tooling and manufacturing efficiency.

  • Lead and contribute to design reviews, prototype development, mechanical testing, and product validation.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers.

  • Conduct stress and tolerance analysis to ensure mechanical integrity and performance.

  • Design mechanical systems that integrate PCBs, harnesses, and meet EMC and safety requirements.

  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing partners throughout the project life cycle.

  • Support rapid prototyping, BOM creation, and cost tracking activities.

  • Produce and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and test plans.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally from concept through to production.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including tooling and DFM/DFA principles.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling, preferably using ProE/Creo.

  • Experience with GD&T, mechanical assemblies, and tolerance stack-up analysis.

  • Familiarity with designing for electronics integration, including safety and EMC considerations.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.


Desirable:

  • Experience with rapid prototyping technologies.

  • Previous involvement in cost optimisation and supplier engagement.

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements relevant to mechanical design.
