Postgres DB Expert - 6 months - Inside IR35 - Hybrid

A leading organisation is seeking a Postgres DB Expert to join their IT team in a hybrid role based in Norwich, UK.

This role is a vital part of the database support and engineering function, ensuring PostgreSQL systems are high-performing, secure, and reliable. It includes working closely with development teams, business users, and other IT staff to provide expert-level database support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Administration: Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of PostgreSQL databases to ensure stability and reliability.
• Performance Optimisation: Enhance database performance through effective query tuning, indexing strategies, and schema optimisation - particularly in data warehousing environments.
• Backup & Recovery: Develop, implement, and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery plans to safeguard data integrity and availability.
• Security Management: Enforce best practices for database security, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability monitoring.
• Issue Resolution: Proactively diagnose and resolve database-related issues, providing expert-level support to developers, analysts, and end-users.
• Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, operational procedures, and internal standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with development, infrastructure, and analytics teams to deliver efficient, scalable, and secure data solutions.

What you will ideally bring:

• Expertise in SQL and PL/pgSQL, with the ability to write complex queries, functions, and procedures.
• Solid understanding of relational database design principles, normalisation, and data modelling.
• Proven experience in database performance tuning and query optimisation, especially in high-volume or data warehousing environments.
• Strong knowledge of backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies using PostgreSQL-native tools.
• Familiarity with database security best practices, including role-based access control and encryption.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities to diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Contract Details:

Duration: 6 months
Location: Norwich, UK (Hybrid)
Daily Rate: £475 per day (Inside IR35)
