IP Network Operations Engineer - 12 Months - Remote/Sporadic Travel to Ireland - Outside IR35
We are currently working with one of our key partners who are looking to bring on an IP Network Operations Engineer for an initial 12-Month contract.
The role is Outside IR35 and is majorly remote based with sporadic travel to Dublin, Ireland.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve IP network issues in line with SLAs.
- Provide on-call support for major incident response (within and outside business hours).
- Handle BAU tasks and resolve problem tickets efficiently.
- Lead investigations into network performance issues (latency, MTU, throughput).
- Implement proactive measures to reduce service outage risks and enhance network resilience.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including failover testing, config audits, and cleanup of unused rules/interfaces.
- Plan and implement changes (projects, incidents, upgrades) following change management protocols.
- Collaborate with IP Design and Performance teams, contributing to documentation and readiness processes.
- Lead FTR testing, peer reviews, and ensure performance KPIs are tracked.
- Maintain accurate network documentation, including topology diagrams.
- Support decommissioning of Legacy configs and hardware.
Skills & Experience Required:
- CCNP or equivalent certification (or higher).
- Strong background in Cisco and/or Juniper; hands-on with LAN, WAN, VXLAN, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi.
- Proven knowledge of L2/L3 protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RIP, VXLAN, IPSec, VoIP, QoS, etc.
- Familiarity with Firewall, IDS/IPS, and other security technologies.
- Experience with wireless and cellular networks (3G/4G/5G), xDSL, Ethernet.
- Skilled in Scripting (Python), APIs, Git workflows, and automation tools (eg, Ansible).
- Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is a plus.
