Job Title: Head of Data
Job Summary: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Data to lead our data strategy, technical delivery and operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data science, analytics, and data governance, with a proven track record of driving data-driven decision-making and innovation. This role requires a hands-on approach, with significant involvement in technical work and client delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Lead and manage the data team of up to 100 colleagues, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Analytics and Insights: Oversee the development of advanced analytics models and tools to provide actionable insights and support decision-making.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee the day-to-day management of data consultancy portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards.
- Collaboration: Work closely with business executives and departmental heads to understand data needs and deliver solutions that drive business performance.
- Innovation: Drive the adoption of new data technologies and methodologies to enhance data capabilities and business outcomes.
- Community Building: Foster the adoption, participation, and growth of a Data Community of Practice within the organization, encouraging knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Talent Development: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing data team, ensuring continuous professional growth and succession planning.
- Pre-Sales Support: Contribute to pre-sales activities by leveraging in-depth data knowledge to support business development efforts and client engagements.
- Hands-On Technical Work: Engage extensively in hands-on technical work, including client delivery and management, ensuring high-quality and impactful data solutions. This is a critical element of the role, requiring the Head of Data to be deeply involved in the technical aspects of projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in working as a Head of Data and with responsibility for data management, analytics, and data governance.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
- Previous experience in delivering leading public sector data services and programmes, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within the public sector.
- Extensive hands-on technical experience in client delivery and management, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality data solutions.
- Strong understanding of data privacy regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable business insights.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, etc.
- Experience and understanding of UK Government Data standards.
