The Big Data Engineer will assist the Platform Analytics team in supporting many different big data projects across Comcast's Network Services Engineering teams, specifically will support the Elasticsearch platform. They will be responsible for helping to bring together complex data into clean and useful data structures making our valuable data more approachable.

Responsibilities:
Contributes to the design, prototyping and delivery of software solutions within the big data eco-system (primarily for the Elasticsearch platform)
Work independently on big data projects and/or serving as analytics SME to provide new or enhanced data to the business
Understand the interactions between Elasticsearch services to investigate/diagnose which other services may be impacted when issues arise with one service
Be familiar (or fluent) with standard Elasticsearch service configurations and best practices to be able to advise customers when they have issues
Improving data governance and quality increasing the reliability of our customer's data
Contributes to designing and building new Big Data systems for turning data into actionable insights
Contributes to the development of architecting the next generation of the platform
Identifies opportunities for improvement and presents recommendations to management
Develop solutions and iterates quickly to continuously improve
Seeks out and evaluates emerging big data technologies and open-source packages
Involved in strategic planning discussions with technical and non-technical partners
Uses and supports a wide variety of Big Data and Analytics tools to achieve results
Uses and supports a wide variety of programming languages on Big Data and Analytics work (ie Java, Python, SQL, R)
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.

Job Qualifications
2-3 years of experience preferred in a data integration, ETL and/or business intelligence/analytics related function
Ability to work with broad parameters in complex situations
Experience in developing, managing, and manipulating large, complex datasets
Experience with architecting and supporting highly available, fault tolerant, and durable Elasticsearch deployments for large number of users
Prior experience with Elastic Cloud or AWS Elasticsearch as a Service
Experience working with containers (Kubernetes, Docker)
Advanced experience with managing Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash, Kafka, and other big data/search technologies
Understanding cloud, virtualization, APIs, and modern software languages
Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools to iterate quickly on product changes, developing user stories and working through backlog (Continuous Integration and JIRA a plus)
Advanced oral and written communication skills
